Wishard is a champion of central Indiana's underserved.
Wishard is different from other hospitals. As a public hospital, we support the underserved by providing the full array of high-quality primary and preventive care in low-cost neighborhood clinics.
Wishard provided roughly $150 million in free care in 2008.
Wishard provides necessary care to everyone in the county - regardless of their ability to pay. Beyond this responsibility, however, Wishard also provides no- and low-cost educational outreach and preventive health services to disadvantaged central Indiana Hoosiers in an effort to lower costs associated with this population's care.
To put it simply, Wishard provides more care to the uninsured than all other health systems in central Indiana combined.
Wishard is a vital part of the community.
Wishard is an advocate, teacher, caretaker and service provider for all of Marion County. In this role, Wishard provides free community flu shots, health screenings and sports physicals at more than 70 health fairs, serving more than 26,000 individuals in 2008; raises awareness about health and safety issues through public service announcements; offers a wealth of no- or low-cost community classes; and coordinates support groups that help our community connect in times of need. Those are only a handful of the services Wishard provides to the community. Wishard is part of the fabric of central Indiana.
